Art is inseparable from society and history. The act of artistic creation is also inseparable from the world.
Art represents all models of beauty and truth within the artist's world. Therefore, art is connected to politics in many different ways and the field of political art is very broad. More so than the term "propaganda" could possibly encompass. The difference between "political art" and "propaganda" is that political art enhances a truth about society and propaganda distorts a truth about society.
Art is not mere aesthetics and color, these elements alone produce art that is sterile. It is disconnected from the world. I have chosen to politicize the aesthetics of my art by adding an emancipatory character to my art. I am a working class artist. My life and my art are interwoven. I take pictures of the city from the working class communities that I have lived and worked in. These are the visions of my youth and early manhood. These were my first Impressions of a horizon, a sunset or a skyline. The factory is a major subject of my cityscapes because it says so much or it can be productive. Whatever It becomes I know It will effect the whole community.
I use black and white film to shoot my pictures because that is the method I taught myself to use when making artistic photographs. I like the surrealistic quality of black and white pictures because it helps make the reality of my cityscapes much more.
