BOTANICALS

Ana Balcazar Bartra (Lima, 1984) is a Peruvian visual artist and educator. She graduated as Bachelor in Art with mention in painting (2012) and completed master studies in Education of Art (2018). Her art has been internationally exhibited since 2009. So far, she has had five solo shows, and more than twenty-four group exhibitions, in Berlin, Washington D.C., California, México D.F., Medellin, Lima, Quito, among other cities. The last five years she has been working actively in urban art and muralism. 

Botanicals is a compendium of her work made in Erie, a couple of paintings started last year in May when she came to visit family, but most of the art work in botanicals started last December. In Botanicals we are going to find two series of body work Chilis and The jungle series, the first one is inspired in her family´s chilis garden in Erie, and the other, in her continuous travels to the Peruvian amazon rainforest. Even when she has been born and rise in the cost of Perú, she possessed a strong amazon heritage which take her to visit the jungle since she was twelve, after that experience she got mesmerized by nature and continuously visits the rainforest. Her paintings give us a close up look at this gigantic botanical display, in an impossibility to ignore nature, with expressionist brushstrokes, vibrant colors and lots of energy.
