an Annex exhibition to Painterly Polaroids on view at the Erie Art Museum through April 2024

This exhibit focuses on a series of Nicole Reinhold Martin’s hand-altered Polaroids and Paintings in collaboration with the Erie Art Museum. Florals is an expression of joy through Martin’s signature painterly polaroids that she created in the 90s mostly made in Erie, hung alongside her recent paintings that are also expressive floral-scapes. The exhibition offers a range of insight into Martin’s process and exploration as an artist over the last 40 years.

Quoting the Museum’s statement: “Disrupting the boundaries of photography and painting, Martin made each image unique through her physical interaction with the surface. The imprint from the pressure of the stylus is visible. Often using a hot car or hairdryer to keep the emulsion fluid, the gestures imply the small window of time for this intervention.”
